Join us in celebrating National Volunteer Week April 15-21, 2018! National Volunteer week was established in 1974 and has become a nationwide effort to encourage people to volunteer in their communities. We are so thankful for all of the 4-H volunteers in our county. In Waupaca County 4-H we have almost 180 adult volunteer leaders who serve in various roles. The 4-H Volunteers are valued partners in working with youth! As a Volunteer you can share your skills and experience with us and transform the next generation of 4-H members. Behind every one of our success stories there are mentors. People who support 4-H and help bring our ideas to life. Parents and adults are encouraged to volunteer and be leaders. They are the driving force to help 4-H members make positive changes all over the county.
Here are some of the things 4-H volunteers and leaders do:
¨ Plan and/or lead workshops, events, and club opportunities
¨ Serve on the Leader’s Board
¨ Chaperone field trips and conferences
¨ Develop and evaluate 4-H Youth Development programs
¨ Contribute through promoting and supporting 4-H
True Leaders in Service
This April is the 2nd annual 4-H True Leaders in Service initiative in honor of National Volunteer Appreciation Month. It is a month-long community service activation that will officially kick-off the first day of April, and culminate with the National 4-H Day of Service on Saturday, April 28. Thousands of 4-H’ers will venture out into their communities to do what
4-H’ers do best: they will lead in service to tackle community challenges and help meet the needs of others. Be part of this by registering your event at http://4-h.org/get-involved/true-leaders-in-service/. This can be an ongoing project or a new one. Groups and leaders can register any community service events they do to get a bigger picture of how 4-H is serving the community as a whole!
Raise Your Hand Campaign
This is a nationwide campaign for alumni to “raise their hands” to empower our nation’s youth with the skills to lead for a lifetime. Alumni who raise their hands by registering at http://4-h.org/raise-your-hand will be added to the new Wisconsin alum database. They’ll be able to pay it forward by volunteering and/or donating with Wisconsin 4-H. The top three states with the most alums “registered” will win $20,000, $10,000. and $5,000 respectively for programming.
