Register Now for UW-Extension Master Gardener Training Program

With the growing season over for another year, now is the time to consider participating in the upcoming local Extension Master Gardener training program to improve your gardening and landscaping knowledge and skills for next year.  The training program runs twelve consecutive Tuesday evenings starting February 12th and goes thru April, 2019 at the courthouse in Waupaca.  Designed as a small group interactive learning experience, only a limited number of seats are available according to Greg Blonde, Waupaca County UW-Extension Agriculture Agent.

Blonde says, “Master Gardeners are Waupaca County residents with a strong interest in gardening or landscaping who successfully complete the UW-Extension training program and then provide additional volunteer service through the local Master Gardener Association. Training topics vary from growing fruits and vegetables, to lawn care and landscaping with annuals and perennials.  Pest management is also covered including ways to deal with common yard and garden insects, weeds and diseases”.

Participants complete 36 hours of instruction, including the weekly group sessions, as well as on-line home training videos and materials for those who want to learn more about their favorite topics. Participants must also pass a take-home written exam at the end of the training program and agree to contribute at least twenty-four hours of volunteer service thru the Waupaca County Master Gardener Association. Master Gardener volunteers also need to complete at least ten hours of ongoing training each year, often included as part of their local monthly meetings (held the second Thursday of each month), to maintain active membership.

Registration for the training program is $75.00 per person, and includes a training manual (special offer!!! the Waupaca County Master Gardener Association will reimburse the $75 registration fee for anyone who successfully completes the twelve training sessions and contributes the minimum volunteer hours in 2019). Class size is limited, so don’t wait, register today and reserve your seat now.
